How to prepare for tests?

 

BLOOD TEST

  • – The test is done on an empty stomach (the last meal should be eaten around 6:00 PM the previous day)
  • – You can drink a small amount of water before the test,
  • – Do not consume alcohol or engage in physical exertion the day before the test,

URINE TEST

  • – For general tests, morning urine is needed (the first after a night’s sleep) from the middle stream (the first part of the urine should be discarded into the toilet, and the next part collected in a special container),
  • – Collect the urine in a sterile container (available at any pharmacy) and label it with your name, surname, and date of birth,
  • – About 10ml of urine is needed,
  • – The collected urine should be delivered as soon as possible,

URINE TEST – BACTERIOLOGICAL:

WOMEN

  • – You need a sterile container.
  • – Wash your hands with running water and soap and dry them with a disposable towel.
  • – Do not touch the inner walls of the container and the lid.
  • – Place the lid inner side up, and hold the container by the outer walls.
  • – With one hand, spread the labia majora, exposing the urethra.
  • – Wipe the area around the urethra with a sterile gauze or paper towel.
  • – Discard the first portion of urine into the toilet.
  • – Without interrupting the stream, collect the second portion directly into the container, filling up to 1/3 of its height.
  • – Immediately after filling the container, close it and deliver it to the laboratory as soon as possible – store it in the refrigerator until transport.

MEN

  • – You need a sterile container.
  • – Wash your hands with running water and soap and dry them with a disposable towel.
  • – Do not touch the inner walls of the container and the lid.
  • – Place the lid inner side up, and hold the container by the outer walls.
  • – Retract the foreskin, exposing the urethra.
  • – Wipe the area around the urethra with a sterile gauze or paper towel.
  • – Discard the first portion of urine into the toilet.
  • – Without interrupting the stream, collect the second portion directly into the container, filling up to 1/3 of its height.
  • – Immediately after filling the container, close it and deliver it to the laboratory as soon as possible – store it in the refrigerator until transport.

STOOL TEST

  • – Collect a small amount of stool in a special container (available at any pharmacy). Use the spatula provided with the container.
  • – The collected material should come from different parts of the same stool sample.
  • – The stool should not come into contact with water, urine, or detergents.
  • – For microbiological and mycological tests, use sterile containers (available at any pharmacy) and deliver the material as soon as possible, within about an hour of collection.

CYTOLOGICAL SMEAR

  • – The best time to perform a cytological test is between the 10th and 20th day of the menstrual cycle. It can be done practically any day except during menstruation, but not earlier than 2 days after the last day of menstruation and no later than 2 days before its onset.
  • – The patient should abstain from sexual intercourse for at least 24 hours before the test.
  • – Do not use douches or tampons before the cytological test.

 

CHLAMYDIA TRACHOMATIS PCR AND GENETIC PROBE METHOD

Vaginal or cervical smear:

  • – Abstain from sexual intercourse and limit hygiene procedures around the genital area for 24 hours before the test.
  • – Do not take the smear during menstruation.
  • – Do not use vaginal medications or ointments 48 hours before the test.
  • – Observe a 7-day break after treatment with antimicrobial agents.
  • – Observe a 1-day break after a gynecological examination or gynecological ultrasound.

Urethral smear:

  • It is best to collect the material in the morning, after a night’s sleep, before urination or at least 3 hours after the last urination.

Urethral smear in men:

  • The patient should not urinate for at least one hour before the sample is taken.

 

HPV-DNA PCR QUALITATIVE, HPVmRNA PCR QUALITATIVE

Women:

  • – Abstain from sexual intercourse and limit hygiene procedures around the genital area for 24 hours before the test.
  • – Do not take the smear during menstruation.
  • – Do not use vaginal medications or ointments 48 hours before the test.
  • – Observe a 7-day break after treatment with antimicrobial agents.
  • – Observe a 1-day break after a gynecological examination or gynecological ultrasound.

Men: urethral-genital smear:

  • Abstain from ejaculation for 24 hours, pull the foreskin over the glans, which should not be washed for at least 12 hours, and refrain from urination for at least 2 hours.

Celiac Disease (HLA-DQ2/DQ8) Buccal Swab

  • Do not eat, drink, smoke, chew gum, or brush your teeth for at least one hour before the swab. It is recommended to take the swab on an empty stomach.

 

THROAT, TONSIL, MOUTH, NOSE, TONGUE SWABS:

  • – Swabs should be taken at the beginning of the infection (when symptoms appear), without using antibiotics.
  • – The swab should be taken in the morning, on an empty stomach, after rinsing the mouth with boiled water.
  • – Do not brush your teeth before taking the swab.
  • – For nasal swabs, they can be taken at any time of the day.

GENITAL SWABS FOR WOMEN: vestibule, vagina, cervical canal, urethra, vulva:

  • – It is best to take the swab in the morning.
  • – Wash the genital area thoroughly without using soap or intimate hygiene gels.
  • – Abstain from sexual activity for 2 days.
  • – Do not urinate for 2-3 hours before taking the swab.

COLLECTING URINE FOR MICROBIOLOGICAL TESTS:

  • – Urine for microbiological testing should be collected in the morning.
  • – The material must be collected before starting antibiotic therapy.
  • – Urine should be collected in a sterile container (available at any pharmacy), after washing hands and the area of the perineum and urethra.
  • – Urine should be collected from the middle stream (first portion of urine into the toilet, second portion directly into the container, filling up to 1/3 of its height).
  • – The container should be labeled with the name, surname, and date of birth.
  • – The sample should be delivered as soon as possible after collection.
  • – Urine should be kept in the refrigerator (2-8°C) for a maximum of 4 hours until transport.
