VENEERS

Veneer – a thin “shell”, ceramic or porcelain plate adhered to the surface of a tooth. Veneers are most often applied to the front teeth, aiming to improve the aesthetics of the smile. They mask imperfections, discolorations, gaps, cracks, or spaces between teeth. The process of placing a veneer is simple and painless, though it usually requires slight tooth preparation. Veneers are intended for those who want to enhance the quality and appearance of their smile without undergoing long and expensive orthodontic treatments. For patients looking for an immediate result, we recommend composite veneers (made from the same material used for fillings), which do not require the use of a dental laboratory.

DENTURES

FLEXIBLE DENTURE (FLEXI)

Flexible dentures are made from thermoplastic materials, particularly acron. This makes the dentures durable, rigid, and very comfortable to wear. Acron is resistant to mechanical damage, so the denture is unlikely to break or crack.

If flexible dentures are used as directed by the dentist, they are almost impossible to damage. Flexible dentures are usually secured with clasps, so they do not irritate the gums. As a result, they serve the patient much better and longer than traditional acrylic dentures. Transparent acron is often used because it best matches the patient’s teeth and is almost invisible.

An acrylic denture is a removable prosthetic that restores missing tissues in the patient’s oral cavity. It can replace a single tooth or an entire set of teeth. Unlike fixed dentures, where the tooth is rebuilt by permanently cementing a prosthetic work, removable dentures can be taken out of the mouth by the patient. They are often used for aesthetic reasons, such as when the front teeth are missing. More commonly, patients with complete tooth loss seek them for functional reasons (inability to chew food).

The denture consists of pink acrylic mimicking the palate/gums, in which acrylic teeth of the appropriate shade are placed.

The dentist conducts appointments to determine the height, size, appearance, and color of the future prosthetic work, while the dental technician creates the dentures. A full acrylic denture requires about five visits, while a partial acrylic denture takes four.

CROWNS

Crown – a type of prosthetic used on a single tooth, it is designed to rebuild or strengthen one tooth. A crown is usually applied when the tooth is too damaged to be restored with a composite (standard filling).

A crown is essentially a “cap” placed on the tooth, permanently attached, and restores the tooth’s natural, healthy appearance.

The first step in preparing the tooth for a crown is to grind it down (a painless procedure performed under anesthesia). The dentist then takes an individual impression of the patient’s tooth and may place a temporary crown to allow the patient to function normally until the ceramic crown is ready. The dental laboratory then prepares the final crown – depending on the patient’s preferences, either porcelain on a metal base (the metal is covered with porcelain and is not visible) or a more aesthetic all-ceramic crown on a zirconium oxide base. Both types of crowns are safe for the body and highly durable.

The completed prosthetic is then fitted in the patient’s mouth and – if comfortable and without need for adjustment – cemented permanently. The shade, shape, color depth, and overall appearance of the crown faithfully replicate the natural tooth, ensuring it matches the rest of the teeth and is comfortable for daily use.

BRIDGES

(click -> pricelist)

Bridge – when multiple teeth need to be replaced, dental bridges, which are essentially a series of connected crowns, can be an effective solution. Bridges consist of pontics (artificial teeth) supported by abutments (natural teeth or implants) and are used to restore several teeth (either adjacent or not).

Depending on the material used, bridges are classified as either porcelain (with an invisible metal base) or all-ceramic (without a metal base).

To ensure patients remain active in their daily lives, we also offer temporary bridges to cover dental gaps until the permanent bridge is fitted.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:

How long will I wait for a ready bridge/crown/denture?

The time required to complete prosthetic treatment is largely dependent on the speed of work of the external dental laboratory. At Corby Private Medical Centre, we ensure that we only work with the best dental technicians, which leads to high patient satisfaction. Typically, the entire process, from the first consultation to the fitting of the final prosthesis, takes about 2-3 weeks. In urgent cases, it may be shortened, but complex treatment plans often require more visits and a longer treatment time.

Are dental crowns durable?

Yes, rebuilding a tooth with a dental crown is a durable, solid, and comfortable way to restore a healthy smile. Properly made crowns typically last over 15 years.

Is it painful to have a bridge or crown fitted?

No. While fitting a crown or bridge requires tooth preparation, this process is performed under local anesthesia and is completely painless. Crowns/bridges fitted after root canal treatment do not require anesthesia at all.

How much does the tooth need to be ground down before fitting a crown?

Before fitting a crown or bridge, the tooth must be carefully ground down from all sides. The degree of grinding depends on the patient’s individual conditions and dental health.
